Moonah Links Clubhouse, Fingal
30.11.2004| The clubhouse is a wonderful environmentally sensitive building perched on top of the hill overlooking the undulating sand dunes forming the golf course. It has classic symmetry with balanced contemporary forms.
The long sweeping planes of its low roofline address the 18th green, with the detached, crescent-shaped roof of the verandah featuring dramatic, fine cantilever ends. The movement of the inclined columns is inspired by a golf swing. The palette of materials start with a stone faced plinth battered textured precast walls and includes spotted gum timber cladding for the feature entries. The spike bar, dining and lounge enjoy direct access to a large wind protected terrace each with beautiful views over the golf course through windows and glazed balustrades. The two most successful aspects to the building are the efficiency of the plan and the warm atmosphere. The plan is organised in such a way to maximise the efficient flow for the staff while making the building simple and enjoyable to use. It resolves the issue of dealing with conferences and golfers simultaneously. |
