Awards
2016 Banksia Awards - Sustainable Cities - Finalist

A finalist in the 2016 Banksia Awards Sustainable Cities category, Webb Dock West RoRo Terminal was also the first project in Victoria to receive an ‘Excellent’ rating from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia and a ‘6 Star Green Star’ design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.

Minimal and modernist in design, the terminal features a flat roof, large picture windows and is finely poised on slender columns. The glass, concrete, steel and recycled concrete building creates a high-tech ‘industrial’ aesthetic while still providing a comfortable and stimulating work environment for staff. Given the location and the need for unimpeded sight lines, there is a sense of transparency both through and around this unique facility.

Rather than conceal the fixtures and fittings this fit out expresses the structure, from the exposed ducts circling the ceiling to the targeted lighting. Rather than superfluous detail, the design created by Plus perfectly captures the client’s vision to create a cutting-edge ‘triple bottom line’ automotive terminal that would not only meet the current logistical requirements, but importantly, those projected well into the company’s future.
