Riverine living and heritage typology in Geelong

Along the banks of the Barwon River, Riverview reflects a contemporary response to its historic and residential surroundings. Designed by Plus Architecture, the project draws inspiration from the angular form of the nearby heritage structure of Kardinia House, reinterpreting these elements through a modern architectural lens.

The design introduces a collection of townhouse typologies, where diversity in rooflines, light-filled interiors, and textured façades create a visual tie between past and present. The façades incorporate light brickwork, timber-look panelling, and grey-tinted glazing, resulting in an integrated streetscape along Riverview Terrace. Additionally, the inclusion of traditional bay windows and intricate detailing offers a subtle nod to Belmont’s architectural heritage, while still maintaining a fresh presence in the area.

"We designed Riverview with the needs of both the individual and the community in mind. It demonstrates how thoughtful design can enhance a neighbourhood's identity, creating spaces that respect Belmont’s context while improving the area for the community," says Associate and Geelong Studio Lead Dominic Versace.

Shared gardens, EV charging stations, and ample bicycle and visitor parking reflect a commitment to sustainable living and the modern commute. Riverview demonstrates how design can deepen a neighbourhood’s sense of place, creating spaces that respect local context while offering improved communal amenity.
