A focus on resilience, sustainability, and community
The New Street Social Housing development is St Vincent de Paul Society’s latest initiative, delivering 60 social housing units to the community of Nerang. Designed with the organisation’s mission at its core, the project is shaped by three guiding principles: Community, Resilience, and Sustainability.
A winding path, emerging from a distinctly subtropical ground plane, creates a sense of arrival and reveals a series of communal spaces dedicated to activities that connect residents to nature, their community, and their home.
Sitting above the lush greenery, apartments feature a robust yet understated material palette of warm precast concrete and crisp white metalwork. This restrained backdrop highlights the green hues of the landscaping within the central atrium.
The mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments is organised around a multi-level breezeway, creating thoughtfully designed pockets of space for the community. These spaces encourage incidental interactions and offer purposeful areas for connection and daily life.
The design promotes the use of outdoor spaces as extensions of the home, embracing the adaptability and enduring qualities of a resilient and sustainable living environment.
