Precinct Art, NewQuay Docklands
14.11.2004| The Art component is seen as one of the unifying elements in the development of the precinct. MAB Corporation has a strong history of support for young artists and as such the work of many artists forms an overlay in the fabric of the ongoing development of NewQuay.
Developers are also required to contribute 1% of construction costs as part of the development agreement with VicUrban for the placement of building and precinct art.Building and precinct art is seen as reflecting the differing experiences, range and diversity of a modern city. The main nodal plaza projecting over the water forms one of two key nodal points within our 350m water frontage features a major artwork installation of 13 pieces by Adrian Mauriks. Another dominant artwork presence on the promenade is an entry announcement to the Sant Elia waterfront apartments, a corten sculpture “Transitions” by Paul Dodds of Sush. This retail area is also an arts precinct and work by Adrian Mauriks, Mathew McCarthy and Alexander Knox has already been incorporated to enrich the experience and the new gold wave wall screening. |
