Mixed-use development Tooronga Village in Glen Iris, Victoria has been masterplanned by Plus Architecture with landscape architecture by Murphy Design Group.

The Gardiner and Heywood apartment buildings have direct access to Gardiner Creek, private gardens and an open-air piazza, restaurants and village-style food market.

Both apartment buildings rise out of the rooftop garden which supports a mini eco-system complete with trees and a pond that captures both irrigation and water for toilet flushing.

10.09.2010
‘Craig Yelland, director of Plus Architecture, says there are many examples of companies retrofitting older office buildings and making huge savings with measures such as installing rainwater tanks and filling them when sprinkler systems are tested…”when it comes to uniformity over an entire building changing, say the heating system, that’s where it becomes more difficult.” But he’s quick to point out that apartments use less energy than houses.’

An ESD Practice

24.08.2008
Plus Architecture embrace and champion environmentally sustainable principles within our design culture and practice. We aim to be recognised for delivering quality architecture that is ESD responsive. At Plus we extend our commitment to environmental sustainability to our own office. We have a minimal car usage policy. The majority of our staff commute to the office via public transport or on bikes, even our directors.

We understand that to make ESD successful we need to have a holistic approach to coordinating and integrating ESD principles at all stages of the design and building process. We aim to help our clients identify areas for improvement and work with them to facilitate the change.

3 Tier Approach to ESD

24.08.2008
Plus Architecture is committed to best practise ESD resolution in all our projects.

We encourage a three tier approach to ESD: From a macro level, Director Rainer Strunz is a Greenstar  Accredited Professionals who is committed to utilising the best practice ESD in all our buildings.

The second is from detailed engineering solutions. To ensure delivery of a complete ESD solution, the Mechanical, Electrical and Hydraulic designs must work together.

We work closely with all of the services Greenstar Accredited Professionals to ensure the input and coordination of their ideas.

The third level is through constant review. We propose using an external ESD consultant to constantly review our designs to look for ways of improving the ESD outcome and to determine the pre-assessment rating.
