Nestled in the Melbourne suburb of Glen Iris, Bespoke Apartments is a new multi-residential development comprised of twelve apartments above a modern ground floor retail base.
The design respects the scale of the established streetscape and addresses the overall building mass of its surrounds. It is a considered response in selection and use of materials. The primary façade faces north and steps back from Malvern Road and from the rear laneway. With a glazed presence of retail space addressing Malvern Road at the ground floor level, the utilisation of coloured brick and the patterned brickwork integrates a streetscape rhythm and provides a solid base to the apartments above.
The dynamic east elevation generated through the tapering soffit projection north and the ground plane tapering down to the street draws visual interest to the corner of Malvern Road and the laneway. The upper two levels of the dark metal façade recede in the stepped back component of Malvern Road. The five-storey building height is minimised and provides a discrete presence to the street.
The apartments are accessed through a distinctive separate entry from Malvern Road. The multi residential development with parking is seamless in fitting within the context of the full character of the high street shops, commercial buildings and residential surrounds.
With a tram line on Malvern Road, public transportation is conveniently located at the corner of Malvern and Tooronga Roads. Vehicle access and loading to the site is from the side and rear laneways. The area is active with a range and variety of cafes, dining and retail offerings.
Local reserves, parks, retail shopping and highly regarded educational facilities are all readily accessible. Bespoke Apartments being situated in the prestigious residential eastern suburbs of Melbourne provides residents opportunity and convenience to shopping centres, lifestyle, and access to the City of Melbourne as one of the most livable cities in the world.
