Plus Architecture Finalist in National Property Council Award for Diversity

Plus Architecture is pleased to announce our national nomination in the Property Council of Australia’s Innovation and Excellence Awards in the Award for Diversity category.

This award recognises and promotes the positive contribution made by organisations that demonstrate a holistic and long-term commitment to diversity within the property industry.

The idea of combining diverse talents, ideas and cultures has always been a structurally significant part of Plus Architecture; Plus’s directors hail from Australia, Germany, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the UK, Poland and the USA.

This kaleidoscope of heritage informs not just the firms design approach, but also its flexible, multicultural team. Plus’s 200 strong team of architects and designers come from across the world, with staff from Canada, India, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, France and Germany, among others.

“As a firm, we invest heavily in our people,” says Director of Plus Architecture Jessica Liew. “We believe that by creating a workplace that is supportive, inclusive and flexible, we are able to get the best out of our team, and this nomination validates this.”

While a long-hours culture can be difficult to escape in the architectural industry, especially at peak times, Plus maintains a policy of providing flexible hours to staff, to allow for family and outside commitments.

While this sort of policy is hardly unique, Plus understands that there are often negative career impacts for staff who take advantage of such opportunities, and so structures career advancement to make sure that staff are recognised for their effort whether or not they work flexibly.

This approach is designed to combat the impact parenthood can often have on the careers of women in professional environments, with research showing that long hours disproportionately affect women.

This policy allows pregnant staff the reassurance of being able to take the time needed to care for their newborns without it negatively affecting career progression.

Plus Architecture would like to congratulate all fellow nominees for this award. The winners will be announced at the National Innovation and Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, Friday 11th of May, 2018. The full list of nominations can be found here.
