Plus Architecture’s design and interiors excellence has been recognised in the recent shortlisting of five Plus Architecture projects in both state and national award programs.
Two years after the launch of Plus’ first New Zealand studio in Christchurch, and one year after the launch of Plus Auckland, the award-winning firm has made the top ten list of apartment architects, as reported by Greater Auckland, the city’s leading urban infrastructure resource.
The rapid growth of the practice has been spurred on by award-winning projects in Christchurch as well as Plus leading the way with the design of The Pacifica, one of Auckland’s tallest residential towers, as well as numerous other master-planning and multi-residential projects.

Off the back of strong business growth across the country, Plus Architecture New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of three new Associates across the firm’s Auckland and Christchurch studios.
“We’re seeing a growing desire for design and results focused architecture,” said Jaimin Atkins, Director of Plus New Zealand.
This demand has seen the Plus New Zealand team growing rapidly to a team of 20 in just over two years, and a growing portfolio of innovative projects including the St Martin’s Community Centre in Christchurch which has picked up an NZIA award, and The Pacifica, one of NZ’s largest residential projects.
New Associate appointments
Based in Auckland, Matthew Robinson joins Plus after 12 years’ experience at Leuschke Group Architects and RTA Studio, working on commercial, high-end residential and civic projects.
Matt’s role includes business and project management, utilising his strong design skills, technical experience and construction knowledge. With a career that started in Landscape Design, Matt’s well-rounded expertise is a valuable asset to the Plus team.
Plus Architecture’s Christchurch studio has been bolstered by the appointment of Matthew Charles, an award-winning designer who has extensive experience with civic, commercial, transport, retail and masterplanning projects throughout South East Asia and New Zealand. Matt’s most recent experience was as Design and Services Manager at Naylor Love.
Matt has delivered projects ranging from boutique to large-scale mixed-use projects for major architectural and building companies.
“Matt’s design and construction knowledge are already proving invaluable as we move forward with several very exciting projects,” said Atkins.
Matthew Robinson is joined by Piers Bowman who has been appointed to the position of Associate in Plus Architecture’s Auckland studio. Piers started in the Plus Melbourne office as a Graduate of Architecture in 2014, before moving home to NZ in 2015, where he was integral in establishing the Christchurch studio.
While in Christchurch he worked on the design and construction of the St Martin’s Community Centre, which was recently awarded an NZIA Award for Public Architecture. He then relocated north and played a key role in establishing Plus’s Auckland studio.
“This promotion is a well-deserved acknowledgement of Piers’ hard work and dedication to growing the Plus NZ team and business,” said Atkins.
With construction on The Pacifica slated to start shortly, and exciting developments in several large master planning, residential and hospitality projects, Atkins says the skills of these three experienced design and architecture leaders will be put to good use.
“We’re thrilled to have them onboard – and we can’t wait to see what’s next for Plus Architecture New Zealand. The future is looking bright.”
