The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet

14.11.2007
Plus Architecture, is pleased to announce its first international project:  the design of the new home for the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet (MFAB) in New York. The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet is an American art institution; one that prides itself on providing classical ballet training of a world-standard.With consistent growth and ambitious future plans, the MFAB has identified a need for bigger and better facilities, planning to construct a multi-level, multi-purpose structure on the corner of Union and South Streets in Downtown Preskill, New York in which to house their Upper School.

The new Upper School facility of the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet will house much more than just the Academy.

With facilities required for a variety of uses, from performance, recording and rehearsal spaces to libraries and residences, the building design will require a considered approach and a flexible architecture skills set.

Through the many programs being planned, the organisation will allow under privileged youths and promising artists to have the opportunity to grow through the arts and develop their talents regardless of their financial means.

Precinct Art, NewQuay Docklands

14.11.2004
The Art component is seen as one of the unifying elements in the development of the precinct. MAB Corporation has a strong history of support for young artists and as such the work of many artists forms an overlay in the fabric of the ongoing development of NewQuay.

Developers are also required to contribute 1% of construction costs as part of the development agreement with VicUrban for the placement of building and precinct art.Building and precinct art is seen as reflecting the differing experiences, range and diversity of a modern city.

The main nodal plaza projecting over the water forms one of two key nodal points within our 350m water frontage features a major artwork installation of 13 pieces by Adrian Mauriks.

Another dominant artwork presence on the promenade is an entry announcement to the Sant Elia waterfront apartments, a corten sculpture “Transitions” by Paul Dodds of Sush.

This retail area is also an arts precinct and work by Adrian Mauriks, Mathew McCarthy and Alexander Knox has already been incorporated to enrich the experience and the new gold wave wall screening.
