Melbourne Football Club – Football History Conveyed Through Design

27.08.2010
The Melbourne Football Club wanted their headquarters to incorporate not only an appealing office space and functional area for the players but to embody the history and legacy of the MFC.Warm wood is combined with the MFC’s colours to create a warm and ‘gentlemen’s club’ feel.  This is combined with memorabilia and text featured on glass panels and cabinets that outlines the club’s history.

The Plus Interiors team has achieved a functional and stylish space that cleverly conveys the essence of the MFC.

Suds Laundrette – Funkiest Laundrette in Melbourne

27.08.2010
Situated on the ground floor of Society, the Suds Laundrette  could easily be mistaken for a funky Chapel St bar. The aim for Suds was to turn a mundane task into a fun and unique experience through design.

Taking its inspiration from the Alice in Wonderland checkerboard, the central area of the laundrette is clad in fabricated grass. Circular cut-outs in the walls reflect the bubbles of washing suds and double as seating.  While wood inspired vinyl is used for both functionality and aesthetics. This interesting combination of materials generates a contrast with the washing machines, enhanced by the suspended ceiling, to create a unique and stimulating environment.

Egg Chair by Emma Selzer

15.08.2010
The egg chair, designed by Plus student Emma Selzer is an innovative pivoting pod that maximizes privacy. The egg chair is located in Society’s recently completed business centre in South Yarra. The brief was to design a funky space that would allow residents to access and use computers. Emma created pods, each with an inbuilt desk and chair.

The main concept behind the design was to maximize privacy. To generate privacy,  Emma used the form to act as a shield and protect the inhabitant from outside viewers.

Plywood was used to construct the pods. There are approximately 110 pieces of plywood used in each pod.

The pieces were laser cut from a 3D model to ensure accuracy. Each piece is stacked onto the next using glue and screws. A bolt and swivel have been attached underneath the pod to secure it firmly in position, and the swivel allows the pod to pivot encouraging the pod user to face any direction.

Society, South Yarra

13.08.2010
Located in the heart of South Yarra on Bray Street between Simmons and Ellis Street, Society is a pioneering development for Australia. Coined a vertical village, Society represents a new generation of living.Featuring 242 apartments, Society is designed specifically to sit in harmony with its surrounds, as it steps up to 9 storeys and then up to 12 storeys to the south.

The design response takes on a duality of form that wraps around itself on elevation. The white rectilinear form harmoniously juxtaposes with a strong, dark curvaceous body that drapes over the lower form.
Appointed like a boutique hotel, Society offers a sophisticated lobby with doorman, ground floor food and beverage precinct including a reception bar and the Suds launderette. The entire building is managed through an intranet from a residential concierge to an in-room music selection.

Residents are encouraged to linger in the sophisticated Society lobby bar, very much like a boutique hotel. Alternatively, residents can choose to work or catch up on the day’s digital social networking in the specifically designed private laptop pods.

The impressive lobby and courtyard bar leads out to a tranquil landscaped bamboo garden. Catch the elevator to the top floor where a glamorous dining room awaits to entertain guests, featuring a generous outdoor balcony complete with roof top spas for the ultimate roof deck, pool or dinner party. A residents gymnasium is also on level 12.
