Design Inspiration - Studio Ghibli
20.11.2007![]() |
It’s heaps of effort for me to sit and watch anime but Studio Ghibli has managed to captivate me for its ability to project powerful humanity messages with simple graphics, usually through childrens characters.
It sprang to popularity in Australia with ‘Sprited Away’. My favourite from the studio would probably be ‘Totoro’ and ‘Grave of the Fireflies’. ‘Grinning is inescapable, laughing your ass right off the seat is probable, and forgetting yourself in worlds seen and unseen is inevitable’. This quote pretty much sums it up Elissa (Plus Architecture) |

18/11/07 ‘Scene’, The Herald Sun
18.11.2007| ‘…Whether worn in an attempt to distinguish oneself from the denim-wearing scenester or as an instant statement of cash flow, more than ever men are stepping out in a (dark) suit.
Take for instance, the hundred or so guests from the upper crust of the design world who gathered in the Dutton car showroom in South Yarra on Wednesday night to celebrate the 10th birthday of Melbourne’s Plus Architecture…’ |

The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet
14.11.2007| Plus Architecture, is pleased to announce its first international project: the design of the new home for the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet (MFAB) in New York.
The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet is an American art institution; one that prides itself on providing classical ballet training of a world-standard. With consistent growth and ambitious future plans, the MFAB has identified a need for bigger and better facilities, planning to construct a multi-level, multi-purpose structure on the corner of Union and South Streets in Downtown Preskill, New York in which to house their Upper School. The new Upper School facility of the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet will house much more than just the Academy. With facilities required for a variety of uses, from performance, recording and rehearsal spaces to libraries and residences, the building design will require a considered approach and a flexible architecture skills set. Through the many programs being planned, the organisation will allow under privileged youths and promising artists to have the opportunity to grow through the arts and develop their talents regardless of their financial means. |
