Palladio, Boyd & Sant ‘Elia, Docklands
5.11.2001| The second stage of the residential buildings at NewQuay was completed in mid 2002 and comprises two towers, the Palladio and the Boyd with the waterfront podium apartments of the Sant‘Elia.
Emphasis has been placed on form making and light modelling, with surfaces and details highly crafted. The architecture has evolved to be enduring, both in design terms and sustainability in the marine environment. The 23-level Boyd tower replicates The Arkley to form a strong 3-piece composition with these 2 flanking, matching towers strengthening the presence of the prow shape form of the Palladio as the centre piece. The Palladio with its strong prow shape form the centre piece between the matching Arkley and the Boyd towers, with its continuous balcony spandrels accommodates 201 apartments over 23-levels; the Boyd has 172 apartments over 23 levels with the 3-5 level Sant’Elia building accommodating 44 larger waterfront apartments. This podium accommodates approximately 3,000 sqm of retail space, predominately restaurants opening onto the upper levels of the pedestrian promenade. Internal to the podium is a multi-deck car park for 514 cars. The Sant’Elia forms the strong horizontal element addressing the NewQuay promenade in contrast to the vertical tower elements behind. Accommodating 45 apartments the Sant’Elia has its own distinct identity and address highlighted by the robust core ten sculptures on the promenade. |

Sorrento Golf Club, Mornington Peninsula
4.11.2001| We sought to retain all the best federation style features of the existing clubhouse while enhancing the existing building with the extensions.
The 45° splay of the south end of the building was replicated in the new north end extension. this provides a symmetrical appearance to the completed building when viewed from the golf course. This enveloped shape makes a wonderful backdrop to the practice putting green when viewed from the golf course. This project was delivered by one of our directors, Charles Justin. |
