09/06/10 ‘Custom-designed plus the cool factor’, The Age
10.06.2010| ‘”When you are an expert in a small market, it’s volatile,” said Craig Yelland, a director of Plus Architecture. “When the market goes pear-shaped, you’re in real trouble”.Now, Plus Architecture is back in business, its staff level is back to 50.The company has more than 800 apartments, 8000 square metres of office space and 4000sqm of retail under construction in locations ranging from Port Melbourne, Tooronga, and St Kilda, to NewQuay and South Yarra.
Mr Yelland makes jobs work financially, while the other directors, Ian Briggs looks after design and Rainer Strunz runs the documentation team. One recently completed project, Society in South Yarra, is the first larger building to have small, custom-designed units. This is the first time the banks would finance projects where the minimum unit was 40 sqm…The Plus directors are adamant that good design sells.’ |
